Poizner Plays Political “Porn Plot”
I was told that Steve Poizner was planning a “porn attack” against Meg Whitman five months ago.
I can personally attest that Steve Poizner has been sitting on this angle since November of last year.
Today was the day that Steve decided to launch a pornographic salvo, slapping Meg Whitman with “porn profiteering” as CEO of eBay.
The most recent poll has Steve Poizner trailing Meg Whitman by 17-points; Desperate people do and say desperate things.
Steve Poizner has utilized the immigration ’cap nip’ over the past four weeks and the result has been a ‘tightening of the gubernatorial race’ as we enter the home-stretch.
If banging the pots and pans of immigration worked so well, why not try the titillating topic of porn?
Team Poizner just added a new TV ad that asks the question, “Do Republicans want a governor who directly profited from selling pornography and sex paraphernalia?”
Whitman’s camp responded with a statement from Dan Comstock, “Is Steve Poizner seriously trying to tell us that eBay is a pornography site? eBay’s millions of users, including my grandmother, will find that a little hard to believe. Steve Poizner is desperate. He lacks momentum. He lacks grassroots support. Most of all, he lacks honesty. The only pornography in this race is the obscene act of watching a liberal like Steve Poizner try to pretend he’s a conservative.”
The issue is people selling movies on eBay.
It seems that eBay adjusted as it matured (sorry), removing the sale of guns, fraudulent paintings and content that falls into a category of “mature and adult” for many users of the main site. When Meg Whitman became CEO – that’s shortly after joining eBay the office - eBay immediately stopped the sale of guns and falsely advertised paintings … but how do you censor thousands of movies that may be morally inappropriate to some, while totally appropriate to others?
The argument from eBay: If you’re running a website that performs as a independent listing agent, how do you police every item of movie, video, audio and production material?
You either sell movies, or you don’t.
And if you do allow the public to sell their movies (adult movies) how do you do it?
eBay ran this disclaimer: “While eBay doesn’t take a moral stand on the items that are listed (we act only as a listing agent), items in the Adult Only category are kept separate from the rest of the eBay marketplace so members can decide for themselves whether they want to view these kinds of items.”
Meg Whitman was the first to be “concerned” about the content and move it away from the main site onto it’s own separate site page location – away from the general viewing and the public shopping store.
Again, do you hold Meg Whitman accountable for private individuals selling their personal items over the conduit of eBay?
That’s a reach, something that Steve Poizner has made common-place over the past two months hoping you fall for it.
This latest Poizner ‘porn plot’ comes across desperate, deceptive and down right destructive for the GOP.
I believe the voters will see this latest “effort” as Steve Poizner jumping the shark one too many times. People, we have three weeks to go until we decided who faces the Democrats, it’s time to get back to jobs, government spending, pension reform and the future of California – please!
Now I am off to take a shower.

Ok. This tees me off! I don’t believe in smoking or drinking alchohol. However, I am sure over the past 30 years that I have had mutual funds that inside them have been stocks and companies that selll cigarettes and alchohol! Is my opponent going to investigate my now puny retirement portfolio and slam me for owning a stock in one of those companies?
I have owned high tech stocks that probably make the cameras used in making porn. So is someone going to back track my support of that company and claim I support porn?
I’ll even venture a guess of all the 1000′s of homes I have sold, someone did something illegal in them. Should I get dumped on for that?
One of the benefits of free speech is the porn industry. Whether you like it or not, the fact you can bash your president over the dinner table and not have to worry about a family member turning you in to the police, also allows this industry to survive.
Just as cigarettes are a legal product, so is porn. The fact that Meg put this into a restricted area, tells me she was being socialy conscious about this subject.
Republicans are supposed to be about the facts and what is right. This ad preys on feelings which is a play right out of the Democratic playbook. I have been on the fence between Poizner and Whitman up to this day. Therefore…
I am formally endorsing Meg Whitman today, and I will do everything I can to help her get elected.
Paul Smith Paul Smith for Congress.
I guess we have to expect/accept that politics is a dirty, creepy game. However….the damage done to the “brand” (R) is shameful. Desperation breeds such actions….SHAME on Poizner.
Remember when people said give Davis four more years and we can defeat the democrats in a landslide?Do you think Brown could that for us?
I guess if ebay is selling porn it is selling porn. She could have simply stopped it. I am confused by all this attack on Poizner? Is ebay selling it or not? If then, let the public decide if she should be elected. If not, then poizner is a liar and that is a different matter. But this idea that he is wrong for pointing out something that may be of concern to voters is bewildering.
eBay doesn’t sell anything – people do. eBay is an Internet auction site that provides people the ability to sell their wares and widgets (legal) to others through the service provided by eBay. eBay is not a porn store! If you think eBay should be penalized for porn auctions, then every family, grandmother and unemployed housewife who has used eBay over the years has actually worked for a porn store and company.
We don’t have four more years!
I guess you can parse my words like you do with “state lines” verses “borders” but that was not my point. Let me try again: If ebay “allows” the selling of porn, it is not unreasonable for a candidate to bring that to the attention of the public. Then it is up for the public to decide. As you can imagine, this subject might be important to some people, so bringing it up is reasonable. it is a FACT that ebay is a private company that has control over the services that it provides. If they wanted to not allow the selling beanie babies that would be their choice. Allowing the selling of porn is, in fact, as choice.
True, a choice of the board of directors and shareholders … not “just” the CEO. Granted, I wouldn’t have, but that she moved it to a restricted website with registration for users to affirm age, and against child porn is legal. I think SP’s leap is stroke of desperation. eBay is NOT a porn site, it is an auction site for people to sell their wears…fraud and gun (background checks) were matters of law.
I will admit moving it to a restricted site, was better than nothing. I will also agree that poizners attack is an act of desperation. I guess I am frustrated because they are both RINO’s and I don’t have a good conservative choice.
Your right Eric ,Harold C. says one year. Will i be left behind with Gov. Brown?
