Roy Ashburn Fueled by Major Union Money

Posted on September 21 2009   by Nick Kump

roy ashburnAs you may already be aware, there is quite a lot of turmoil in the race for 2010 Board of Equalization District 2.

After that posting a few weeks back and all of the endorsements Senate Minority Leader Hollingsworth seemed to be handing out, we thought it odd that State Senator Roy Ashburn was not included.

We could not get a final word from Hollingsworth’s office on his endorsement of Ashburn for Board of Equalization, but after a little bit of investigation, we may understand why.

Part of being a Republican candidate is not just your public image of advocating for small government and minimal taxes, but also in light of the Mike Duvall scandal, who you keep company with and where your true loyalties are at. No matter how hard one may try to cover it up, you can’t keep the truth in the closet because it will always come out.

This is important because we have all seen plenty of candidates who can make promises and say things to appease constituents, but in the end are loyal to the individuals and groups who they are in bed with (politically of course). Mr. Roy Ashburn just might fall into this group of candidates who, when times get tight, cannot be relied upon to uphold the core conservative principles.

This is because according the most recent campaign finance documents (June 2009) out of the $56,450 that Ashburn has raised for his campaign thus far in 2009, $23,200 of that has come from labor unions. That’s an astounding 41.1 percent. Not one of the other candidates in the race has over 2-percent of their donations coming from unions (Alby, Nakanishi, Runner).

If the “follow the money” mantra has any truth to it, then getting such a large proportion of your money from groups with names like the California State Council of Laborers and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters does not bode well for what can be expected from Ashburn.

It is also important to note that as of this posts writing, Ashburn’s official campaign web page appears to be completely taken down; before it was only an ‘under construction page’ with his picture. It is now a log-in page for the domain host.

This may mean that Ashburn has realized that a union whore has no place on the Republican ticket or could just be a simple technical hiccup.

Stay tuned to HOGUE NEWS for more updates and hopefully an explanation of this apparent blatant disregard for conservative principles.

  1. Eric, let’s not forget that Ashburn was one of the three GOP State Senators who crossed party lines and provided the necessary votes for over $16 billion in higher income, sales and car taxes last February.

  2. This guy is a gutless liar! He signed a no new tax pledge and violated the trust of all his constituents. He was 100% for the budget that contained the largest tax increase in history. He authored proposition 1A. Now, he has the audacity to blather on his Saturday radio program about what a defender of the common man’s paycheck he is. He has found his spine ONLY after he realized what a horrible mistake he has made!
