Poizner’s Eagle; Meg Shoots Double-Bogey
I believed that the Sacramento Bee’s reporting of Meg Whitman’s lack of voting, as well as her lack of registration, was something of old news yesterday.
Sure, we did read a new twist – that Meg Whitman may not have ever been registered before 2007. And her statements that she was registered as DTS (decline to state) in 2002 cannot be proven at this point in time.
But Meg has now made two campaign statements on this now; one a few months back, and today’s statement following yesterday’s print in theĀ Bee and the LA Times.
Here are the released details:
“Voting is a precious right that all voters should exercise,” the former eBay CEO said in a written statement. “I have repeatedly said that my voting record is inexcusable. I failed to register and vote on numerous occasions throughout my life. That is simply wrong and I have taken responsibility for my mistake.”
The campaign of Whitman’s top Republican rival, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, was quick to pounce with an personal email shipped to my desk yesterday afternoon.
“In the history of America, no one has been elected governor or a state with Meg Whitman’s 25-year history of no-show voting,” said Poizner communications director Jarrod Agen. “She is unelectable and has tried to cover her lack of honesty with millions of dollars.”
I think this is the real news; Whitman has – for the first time in this race – offered a reply to an opponent in the race.
“California needs leaders who are accountable for their actions. I take responsibility for mine, while my opponent, Steve Poizner, runs from his.”
On a day that I release a piece on eBay Meg’s ‘tough Tiger strategy’, you should chalk up a point for Steve Poizner. Meg had to respond, and she was forced to give answer to her voting record as it compares to Steve Poizner’s voting record.
Small, but significant if you’re Poizner.
Heading into the weekend GOP Convention the Commissioner has some footing and – if you keep my golf analogy thriving – Poizner has shot an eagle, while Whitman has now double-bogey the hole.
Some momentum for Steve Poizner, he has made eBay Meg comment on his game.

I don’t think either of these candidates are running for office because they have a determined belief in Republican Party values but only the financial means to compete in a state wide election. Gone are the days when a party can promote a candidate who represents that party. Today’s elected leaders are bought and paid for by their war chest of cash, special interest and their elite friends. How else can you explain what is going on in the Capitol?
I am not happy with either Republican running for govenor. I get the feeling there is something bot being said for fear of a negative reaction from voters. Does Meg Whitman represent another Arnold and is Steve Poizner a liberal that has seen the light for the coming election?
Every liberal is a moderate and most if not all moderates are liberal. I want to research each candidate’s history and make up my mind. In my opinion I am the only right candidate because I know what my views are. I am a conservative that does not necessarily trust the Republicans to do the right thing while knowing the Democrats are liars and cheats.
What’s a boy to do.
