Democrats Target Dan Lungren
Last Saturday Nancy Pelosi was in Sacramento for the State Convention. She also slipped out to visit Phil Angelides’ home for a reported $10,000 a plate fund raiser. Later we were told it was only a $1,000 a plate to sit with Madam Pelosi and obtain a new autographed copy of her book. Now, we are left to wonder. Did the remaining $9,000 a head go to Phil Angelides’ maturing campaign against Republican Congressman Dan Lungren?
From the San Diego Tribune today:
The California Target Book, the leading authority on congressional and legislative campaigns in the state, reported on Tuesday that an electoral battle may be shaping up between two unsuccessful nominees for governor.
The Target Book said that former state Treasurer Phil Angelides, the 2006 Democratic nominee for governor, is taking a serious look at running against Rep. Dan Lungren of Gold River next year. Lungren was the Republican nominee for governor in 1998 when he was state attorney general.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has its eye on eight potential 2010 targets in California where President Barack Obama carried Republican-held districts.
Lungren is regarded as one of the most promising targets after he was re-elected last year by a surprisingly narrow 5 percentage points and opposition from the deep-pocketed Angelides would guarantee one of the state’s most expensive contests.
We’ll have the Congressman on the air soon and ask.
