The Democrats Are Short Votes!
This weekend the House led by Nancy Pelosi will attempt to pass the Health Care Bill. Problem is that 40 defections from the Dems will sink the ship.
That assumes all the Republicans will vote against.
I can imagine all sorts of side deals will be in place trying to get the right amount of votes. Seems the Dems are a tad gun-shy with the reaction to this summers Tea Party’s, Townhall meetings and the fear of being booted out of office.
Good…they need to know just how important their vote is and what it will costs them next year.
Speaker Pelosi has been quoted that she will have the votes lined up in time for the vote, or so she tells herself. AARP came out and endorsed the plan saying it would lower drug costs for seniors. True, but who do you think is going to pay the difference? Ah, the 18-45 year old group. It has to come from somewhere!
And what’s this States ‘opt out’ plan?
California has already come out and said they will take the public option, so don’t count on too many states opting out if they can save money. But then its not a lock that the bill will have the ‘opt out’ provision either. Wait till we get the CBO scoring to see just how much the final version will cost, then expect both sides to refute the data anyway.
Meanwhile in the Congressional Hispanic Caucus led by Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y) says her caucus of 20 will vote against the bill if language restricting the rights of illegal immigrants to buy insurance is added.
Wait, did I hear that correctly? Velazquez wants illegal aliens to buy insurance and if the can’t they will vote it down? Someone help me here; do illegal aliens have any rights to buy it now?
Doesn’t illegal mean illegal -- as in no rights?
Did I go to sleep for the past 20 years and wake up to find that illegal aliens have rights in this country now?
If the bill gets delayed past the weekend the word is it won’t come back until next year. That will be a big blow to Pelosi and her ability to lead the House and keep her troops in line. Throw in the primary races in March and we could see a jailbreak on this bill.
